Dr. Sayida Peprah, PsyD

Dr. Peprah is both a licensed clinical psychologist and birth doula, with over 10 years of experience in both fields. Through her multi-faceted career as a psychologist, diversity and cross-cultural educator, and community-based doula program director, she specializes in multicultural psychology, trauma, suicide prevention and maternal mental health. Her studies and work strongly emphasize multicultural awareness which she has furthered by travel to Ghana, Mexico, Egypt and India, studying mental health approaches, indigenous culture and local spiritual traditions. Dr. Peprah is the Founder and Executive Director of the non-profit organization Diversity Uplifts, Inc., whose mission offers cultural competency, mental health and maternal mental health training and consultation throughout the U.S. 


An advocate for human rights in childbirth, Dr. Peprah is a member of the Black Women Birthing Justice Collective and a Collaborator with the Black Mamas Matter Alliance, promoting research, education and community-based services to positively transform the birthing experiences of black families. She has served and continues to serve on advisory committees including the Perinatal Equity Initiative Committee, California Maternal Quality Care Collaborative, Perinatal Families and others aimed at identifying key risks and opportunities for quality improvement and prevention around disparities. In 2014, she was a featured speaker at the United Nations 65th NGO Conference on the topic of Mental Illness, An Invisible Disability. 


Dr. Peprah earned her Doctorate in Clinical Psychology, with a Multicultural Clinical-Community Emphasis, from the California School of Professional Psychology, at Alliant International University. She completed her undergraduate studies in Psychology and Religion at Spelman College. She is dedicated to contributing her expertise to uplift the community and improve the effectiveness of health care and social support services.
